[Toy Review] Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017

The very first Defo-Real figure that I owned was the Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017 (Standard version). Take a look at [Image 1] - the official product featured image of the Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017 by X-Plus.
A Little Backstory
Godzilla 2017 (a.k.a Godzilla Earth) was produced by Toho, it was released shortly a year after Shin Godzilla (2016), screening via Netflix as animated film trilogy [Image 2]. The animated films adopted a mixture of 2D and 3D techniques, giving the Godzilla a sense of realism on-screen. Furthermore, it is by far the biggest and tallest Godzilla with the height of > 300 meter.
But my honest opinion? Not a fan of the animated films. Not going to explain why so and not giving away spoilers - please watch it yourself to find out :P
Critics on the X-Plus Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017 (Standard version)
Despite I am not a fan of the animated films, I am still in-love with the design of Godzilla Earth - it is fresh! Also, I can see it took reference from Godzilla 2014 (a.k.a Godzilla 2019).
To me, Godzilla Earth looks like a giant tree trunk strolling in the woods. Its body covered with the antique blue-green colour which is close to teal colour (refer to Image 2). Oh~ you may want to read and find out more about the design and inspiration behind the Godzilla Earth 2017 (here).
Now, let's talk about the vinyl figure Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017 (Standard version).
The first time I saw the official product images of this figure (refer to Image 1), I was mesmerised by its detail! The figure nicely captured all the features of the Godzilla Earth: from the facial expression (the head-sculpt), the body shape and texture, the dorsal plate, everything!
(i) The Head-sculpt
This Defo-Real figure features a head sculpture with the mouth opened, where you can clearly observe the detail inside the mouth cavity. The colour of the eye is similar to the animated film: a bluish tint. However, to look closely at the face, it looks like the face of a 50-60 year-old lady/old man who is about to nag you all-day long (lol).
(ii) Body Texture
It has the lumpy muscle definition all over the body of this Defo-Real Godzilla figure, which perfectly reflect how it looks like in the animated film. All these muscles remind me of the human muscle groups, with consistent details covering all over the surfaces.
These textures perfectly reflect the inspiration behind the Godzilla Earth, which is inspired by trees and plants. It resembles the idea of swirling branches/tree trunks, as well as tree bark.
(iii) Dorsal Plate
The dorsal plate of this Defo-real Godzilla figure reminds me of the shape of oak leaf

(iv) Paint Job
The overall paint job of this figure is good, very similar to the colour of the Godzilla in the animated film. The paint job of this figure makes it looks like it has a patina finishing on the outer layer. (You may want to find out what is patina here.)
Furthermore, the pupil colour is in blue which has been mentioned earlier.
Another plus point of this figure is the paint job of the mouth cavity and the dorsal plate are both covering with the glossy coating (the wet look) as compared to the other parts of the body. [Image 12] It is the little detail like this that makes me appreciate the figure even more.
(v) Size
Well, I did not expect the size of this Defo-Real figure to be this big! If we talk about its 3-dimentional measurement, it is: length = 17cm / breadth = 15cm / height = 12.5cm [Image 13 & 14]. [Image 15] shows the size comparison of the figure with an apple.
(vi) Box Packaging
Let's talk about the colour used for the box packaging. The main colour of the box is the same colour as reflected from the body colour of the Godzilla Earth. The logo is based on the official logo of the Netflix show. Consistency!
Another good point is the images of the Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017 is printed on the box packaging. Due to this little perk, I wouldn't want to throw the box away!
(vii) Price
How much did I get (Standard version): ¥ 5,100 + ¥ 1,340 Shipping Fee (total USD59)
As mentioned in my first blog post (Toy Review: The Obsession for Toy Line Created by X-Plus: The Defo-Real Series), CD Japan (a.k.a Neowing) is my usual "go-to" online toy store for Defo-Real figures, where it offers the cheapest price among other competitors.
Does the figure deserve the price that I paid? Absolutely yes!

(viii) Ric Exclusive and other special release
Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017 (Ric Exclusive): ¥ 7,992 (≈USD74)
Features: Everything of the Ric Exclusive version is the same as the Standard version, except the dorsal plate of the Ric Exclusive version is glow-in-the-dark [Image 18].
Defo-Real Godzilla Earth 2017 (Tokyo Comic Convention Exclusive)
Features: It is the same figure as the Ric Exclusive and the Standard version (which is casted using the same mold), but it is casted with translucent blue plastic [Image 19].
So, what's my verdict... ... On Point!!! Let me know what you think about this figurine.
